Pearl River Wrestling competed in some off-season action as several key members led the way to a 6-1 team finish at the 2013 Leukemia Duals for Rockland Force, a team put together of local standout wrestlers.
Coached by John Laurenzi, Clarkstown South Wrestling Club, the Pearl River wrestlers that competed were 102 lb Sean McGarvey, 116 lb James Kelly, 135 lb Nick Simetti, 141/148 lb John Muldoon, 155 lb Rob Gullo, 163/173 lb Shaun Carroll, and 223 lb Brian Kondraki.
Leading the way for Pearl River wrestlers were McGarvey, Kelly, Muldoon, and Gullo all going 5-2 on the weekend. Simetti and Carroll clocked in a winning weekend, each going 4-3. Rounding out the Pearl River boys was Kondraki, who battled some tough opponents into overtime and close decisions, going 2-5 on the weekend.
The Pearl River wrestlers were teamed up with local standout wrestlers from neighboring schools North Rockland, Nanuet, Bergen Catholic, Port Chester, Clarkstown South, and Tappan Zee.
North Rockland – 109 lb Alex D’Angelo 5-2, 123 lb Marlon Borge 5-2, and 163/173 lb Mike D’Agostino 5-2.
Nanuet- 129 lb Joe Dillon 5-2
Bergen Catholic – 141/148 lb JP Ascolese 5-2
Port Chester – 185 lb Justin Karas 6-1
Clarkstown South – 198 lb Justin Fortugno 3-0 and 198 lb Hassan Auwarter 2-2
Tappan Zee – 288 lb John Hartnett 6-1
Rockland Force went to Albany, NY to take on some of the very best club teams the Northeast has to offer and came away with a 6-1 record, a Bronze Bracket Championship, and a 5th place overall finish.
