If you’ve ever been to a NJ HS Varsity wrestling match, then you probably know just how good the wrestling officials are. You’ll see stalling called very quickly, more action at the edge of the mat and none of these indecisive “is he pinned moments” with the referee being out of position. We’ve had a more than a few of these moments over the years, the two I recall most was the “The Foot Race” and the conveniently out of position ref who didn’t call the pin on a section champ at home.
I’m still baffled how a Referee would let a wrestler basically run away for 6 min. Unfortunately, we all saw it when John Muldoon lost 3-1 in overtime v Calvano. Fortunately, revenge was sweet 2 weeks later with a dominate 10-5 win and a ref that didn’t allow any BS.
Then there’s the out of position ref who doesn’t call a pin on a section champ. You can see it in slow motion here http://youtu.be/NJ3nY3mK0rk
There is one constant in Section One, the referee’s are consistently inconsistent. But we need them, and that’s why we love ’em and sometimes hate ’em…
